2007 General Schedule

Adult classes are held every Thursday evening at 7:00pm at Ashburton throughout the year. New members are always welcome. Contact Lesley if you would like to try this out.

Senior Group lessons are held at Totnes (for one hour starting at 6:00pm) .  This group meets on Saturdays except the last Saturday in any month  The Senior Group dates schedule is available on request.

Junior Group lessons are held at the same time and venue as the Senior Group.  Swimmers need to be able to swim approximately 25 metres, to know the basics of the four major strokes, and to be confident in deep water.

New this Term

We have an exiting new venture this term. On Saturdays at the Totnes pool, at 5:00pm and again at 5:30, we have two mini groups of Early Improvers. These have a maximum of 4 pupils and are designed to lead swimmers from one-to-one lessons through to the requirements needed to join the main Junior one hour group at 6:00pm. There are two standards - Early Improver One is for those just leaving one-to-one lessons, and Early Improver Two is for those who are more proficient but who find the one hour session in the Junior group a bit too much. Because of the small number in each group, places are limited and a waiting list is in operation.

Summer School 2007

Our Summer School was held throughout the August school holidays. This year we engaged more teachers on each day and we taught a bumper number of pupils. Many of these were new to the School and several have registered with us on the strength of the progress made during the holidays.

Each year, the Summer School is open to adults as well as children and will be for anyone whether or not they are registered with the School. Application forms and details of Summer School 2008 will be available from this office in mid-June 2008.

Change of School Premises

The pool which we have used for some 8 years was sold in the summer and the new owners no longer wished us to teach there, but we have found a delightful pool tucked away in a quiet area of Ashburton. This pool, although not "on the beaten track" is very easy to find and, with Ashburton situated on the A38, very accessible to swimmers from Plymouth to Newton Abbot and Torbay. Most of our swimmers have moved with us and are currently enjoying a lovely facility and better parking than we had before. We have also taken on extra time at both the Totnes and the McCaulay's (Ivybridge) pools.

New Teacher Course

We will be holding a basic teachers' course in the New Year. This is designed to give an insight into teaching practices without a huge financial outlay. Candidates are encouraged, after our course, to continue with teacher training at any official A.S.A. Course which will give qualifications.
